MANGALDAI: Rup Shikha Nath, a 23-year-old Divyanga talent from Jyoti Nagar of Mangaldai with an indomitable spirit, embodies the spirit of determination and perseverance. Her dream of cracking the UPSC examination burns brighter with each passing day, and she’s willing to sacrifice sleep to make it a reality. Despite being confined to her bed due to a severe neurological disorder, Rup Shikha’s spirit remains unbroken. Her electronic wheelchair has become her trusted companion, and she has navigated the challenges of her physical disability with remarkable courage.
Ever smiling Rup Shikha’s academic achievements are a testament to her unwavering dedication. She secured an impressive 79.67% in her HSLC examination with letter marks in five subjects, 73.69% in her HSSLC (Arts) examination with letter marks in two subjects, and 81.50% in her BA with Political Science as her major from Mangaldai College. Her Master’s degree in Political Science from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi with 71.10% is a remarkable feat, especially considering her physical challenges. Meanwhile she has also been qualified for the NET.
As Rup Shikha prepares to take the UPSC examination, she’s received a heartwarming gesture of support from Director General of Assam Police GP Singh, who gifted her 26 essential study books. OSD to the DGP and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Debajit Hazarika accompanied by social activist Anubhav Parashar met her at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Darrang and offered her the books. Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal, Additional Superintendent of Police Rosy Talukdar and Ima Das, media persons Bhargab Kumar Das and Mayukh Goswami also witnessed this event.
With the encouragement of her family, including her mother Hemanti Nath, a retired Sub Inspector of Police, and her father Kamaleswar Nath, a serving Sub Inspector in the Special Branch of Assam Police, Rup Shikha is poised to achieve her dreams.
Mention may be made here that DGP GP Singh taking a unique initiative has offered the packet of books containing 26 valuable study books to a total number of 299 Colleges, District Libraries and Sub Divisional Libraries of the state so that the aspirants for the UPSC or APSC may be benefited with these books. However Rup Sikha is the only individual of the state to receive this gift.
After successful completion of her Masters Degree with her strong determination and inspired by the dream that does not let her sleep, another dream that has not let her sleep is to get admission to the prestigious London School of Economics. Now, she is busy preparing for the UPSC examination, and her unwavering spirit continues to inspire everyone around her.”
