Sonmai Rajbongshi was not only a respected community figure but also an emblem of resilience in the face of adversity. Diagnosed with cancer five years ago, she faced the illness with extraordinary mental fortitude. Her courageous journey was highlighted on February 23 at a national-level cancer awareness conference North East Community Awareness Plenary held at Tezpur College under the guidance of renowned oncologist Dr Venkatesh Pradeep Babu Koila. Her story was featured in a special video presented at the event, attended by cancer specialists from across India and patients from various parts of the Northeast. The video served as a source of motivation, showcasing her unwavering spirit and positive influence on other patients. This afternoon, a sea of admirers gathered at her residence to pay their final respects. Her last rites were performed with full dignity at 4:25 PM at the Dhekiajuli Public Crematorium. She is survived by her son Gautam Rajbongshi, Principal of Dhekiajuli Higher Secondary Girls’ School, her daughter-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members and followers who continue to cherish her memory.
