Assam: Dhekiajuli welcomes spring with 71st Central Rongali Bihu Sanmilan

DHEKIAJULI: With colours, culture, and deep-rooted tradition, the 71st Dhekiajuli Central Rongali Bihu Sanmilan commenced its four-day grand celebration of Bohag Bihu, spreading festive fervour throughout the Dhekiajuli co-district. The celebration, organized from April 15 to 18, showcases the rich Assamese heritage through a series of cultural, sports, and community-driven events.

The inaugural ceremony began on Tuesday with the ceremonial hoisting of the Bihu flag by Kajal Borah, President of the Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee, in the presence of all executive members. Following the flag hoisting, a solemn tribute to the martyrs was paid by lighting a ceremonial lamp, led by Madhurja Borah, General Secretary of the committee.

Wednesday morning witnessed the energetic kick-off of the All Assam-based Marathon Race Competition, which was inaugurated by renowned former athlete Minati Lahakar. The streets of Dhekiajuli echoed with the spirited footsteps of participants from across the state, marking a vibrant start to the second day.

Adding further flair to the festivities, a series of cultural and intellectual programmes followed, including All Assam-level poem recitations, quiz competitions, a children’s convention, and an enchanting cultural evening featuring performances by local artists.

The Dhekiajuli Central Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee, formed with Kajal Borah as President, Pranab Jyoti Kalita as Executive President, and Madhurja Borah and Manash Jyoti Nath as joint secretaries, is steering the celebration with dedication and enthusiasm. As Bohag Bihu breathes new life into the land, the people of Dhekiajuli and the neighbouring areas were seen adorned in traditional attires of vibrant gamocha, elegant pat-muga sarees, festive japees, and other Bihu ensembles bringing the streets alive with joy and unity. Across social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), people are sharing heartfelt Bihu wishes and vibrant images from the Dhekiajuli co-district area.

Local influencers and artistes have joined the celebration, posting live updates and stories that highlight the emotional and cultural depth of Bohag Bihu. The event is not only a festival but a movement of heritage, pride, and togetherness. The Dhekiajuli Central Rongali Bihu Sanmilan continues to stand as a glowing symbol of Assamese culture, communal harmony, and seasonal joy turning the town into a cultural mosaic of tradition and celebration that resonates both offline and online.
