DHEKIAJULI: The town of Dhekiajuli plunged into deep mourning on Sunday as news broke of the demise of one of its most respected and beloved figures Shayashree Kalita, a devout woman, tireless social worker, and spiritual guide to many. A resident of Ward No. 7 in the martyr town of Dhekiajuli, she breathed her last at 3:25 PM at Tezpur Medical College after a prolonged illness, as confirmed by her son Pranab Jyoti Kalita, Assistant General Secretary (Administrative) of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP). Her departure marks the end of an era defined by compassion, community service, and unwavering dedication to spiritual and social causes. Shayashree Kalita, the widow of Late Bijoy Kalita, was not just a mother and grandmother, but a pillar of strength and inspiration, who had completed her education in Goalpara before embracing Dhekiajuli as her home through marriage.

Over the decades, she emerged as a leading force in religious and community life, playing a vital role in institutions like the Dhekiajuli Shankar Mandir Namghar and serving as the former president of the management committee of the Balisiha Primary School in Bhalukdhora. Her home on Sunday witnessed a steady flow of grieving visitors including leaders, activists, educators, and admirers who came to pay their last respects and express heartfelt condolences. Prominent among them were Rana Pratap Baruah, Chief Advisor of AJYCP Central Committee, Sujit Kataki, Central Literary Secretary of AJYCP and Vice-President of APCU Kalpajyoti Nath, Secretary of Dhekiajuli Writers and Journalists’ Forum, Palima B Chetia, Assistant Secretary of the Assam State Journalists’ Association, and senior journalist Tapan Sengupta, among many others. Her final rites were conducted at the Dhekiajuli Public Crematorium amidst prayers, tears, and memories that filled the air with solemn reverence.

As Dhekiajuli bids farewell to this luminous soul, her legacy of faith, kindness, and service will remain etched in the hearts of those who knew her. She left behind her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and an entire community that proudly carries forward the light she kindled.
