GUWAHATI: In a significant incident, an unidentified thief stole around 45,000 from a passenger who was from Dhemaji traveling in Guwahati during daylight hours.

Nabajit Gohain, an employee of Dhemaji Public Academy, was on his way to deposit Rs 45,000 at the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) office situated in Bamunimaidam. He boarded the Chandmari bus heading towards Ganeshguri while he carried the money securely in his possession.

As per reports, while he was traveling in Guwahati's city bus, an unidentified man caused a distraction when he purposely poured water onto him. During the moment of distraction, the thief managed to snatch the bag containing the money and quickly vanished.

A person from the city bus network is suspected of having committed this robbery. Gohain became aware of the theft after leaving the bus, so he directly reported the incident to the Dispur Police Station.

News of the theft has sparked significant worries about public transport safety in Guwahati. The police are investigating the incident by analyzing CCTV videos from both the vicinity and the transit route to determine who stole the cash.
