NAGAON: The historic Dhing College achieved recognition from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for the second time for its efforts to make its campus green. This coveted recognition was declared on World Environment Day 2025.
Department of Botany, Dhing College and its Eco-Club covered a 10 bigha plot with greenery, consisting of a fruit garden, orchard, and old as well as new patches of plantation, out of its total 75 bighas of land, leaving a 2.5 bigha plot covered with water body.
Dr Biman Hazarika, Principal of the college, sent an email of gratitude to UNEP for the prestigious recognition and assured to make the college campus plastic free and bring more areas under the cover of greenery, with fruit plants and other high-value wood.
Meanwhile, Dr Biman Hazarika was awarded the ‘Best Principal Award 2025-26’ by the Indian Talent Olympiad. Dr Hazarika will receive the award at a prestigious function scheduled to be held in Mumbai in Maharashtra on November 9.
