NAGAON: The All Assam Journalists’ Union (AAJU) Nagaon District unit organized an extended executive meeting at Dhing College on Sunday. The meeting was held in two sessions, with the first session focusing on felicitating meritorious students and distinguished individuals.

During the felicitation ceremony, students who excelled in HSLC Examination 2025 and HS Final Examination 2025 were honoured with appraisal letters, mementos, and trophies. The students felicitated included Debjit Borah, Nandini Devi, Nazifa Jahin, Ankita Das, Yahiya Alom, Himanta Biswa Debnath, and Mosharraf Hussain. Besides, Pratyashi Pritam, who secured the highest marks in Assamese in the HSLC examination in the Dhing area, was also felicitated.

AAJU’s State President Pankaj Kumar Nath emphasized the importance of using one’s talents for the betterment of society. He stated that merely obtaining high marks or a good mark sheet does not make one’s life meaningful; rather, it is the positive impact one has on society that truly matters. Nath urged the students to utilize their talents for the welfare of society and to strive for personal growth. Dr Biman Hazarika, the Principal of Dhing College, Mamata Nayak, the first woman scribe from the greater Dhing area, were among the special guests who addressed the occasion and highlighted the historic legacy of the journalists of Dhing areas. The programme was chaired by Rajib Kr Neog, the In-Charge President of Nagaon AAJU, while Sofikur Rahman, Secretary of the district unit, anchored the session.

The second session of the meeting was dedicated to the expanded executive body meeting of the Nagaon District unit of the organization.

During this session, the members discussed various issues, including the protection of journalists and the challenges faced by the profession. The meeting also condemned the recent attack on a journalist in Kampur and demanded his immediate release.

The meeting passed several resolutions, including one condemning the attack on journalist Nabajyoti Laskar and demanding his immediate release from jail. The meeting also expressed solidarity with Laskar’s family and demanded action against those responsible for the attack.
