DIBRUGARH: In a significant move, the Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha has submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner and through him to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urging that the newly constructed flyover on Convoy Road be named after renowned Assamese linguist, literary scholar, and educationist Dr. Leela Gogoi.
This initiative honors Dr. Gogoi’s remarkable contributions to Assamese literature and education. The Sahitya Sabha underscores that his extraordinary works continue to inspire generations, and naming the flyover after him would be a well-deserved recognition of his legacy.
Similarly, in memory of martyr soldier Balmukund, a Dibrugarh road near the Amolapatty area was named Balmukund Road earlier in the year 2023. CRPF DIG Rajiv Ranjan, MLA Prashant Phukan, 171 CRPF Battalion CO Samir Srivastava, martyred Balmukund’s wife Usha Devi, and Dibrugarh Municipal Board chairman Saikat Patra were present during the program.
While speaking to the media, Usha Devi said, “I am happy in the memory of my husband that the road was dedicated. He made supreme sacrifice for our country and we are proud of him."
Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan said, “It is a very good initiative to name the road after those who sacrificed their lives for the country. The road will be a source of inspiration for others, and the youth will get inspiration to serve their country.”
