Assam: Dicial village declared as African Swine Fever ‘epicentre’

With confirmation of positive cases of African Swine Fever (AFS) in pigs at the farm owned by one Raja Dutta of Dicial village in Sivasagar district, the village has been declared as ‘epicentre’ and ordered containment measures to prevent spread of the disease by the department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary.

SIVASAGAR: With confirmation of positive cases of African Swine Fever (AFS) in pigs at the farm owned by one Raja Dutta of Dicial village in Sivasagar district, the village has been declared as ‘epicentre’ and ordered containment measures to prevent spread of the disease by the department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary.

According to office of the District Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Sivasagar, to prevent the further spread of infection, the department has declared a 1-km radius of the farm as an infected zone, while the villages falling within 10 km radius have been declared surveillance zones. Restrictions were also imposed on transportation of live pigs from within the designated control area and also imposed a ban on sale of pig, pork, feed and related items.

Accordingly, all arrangements have been made by the office of the District Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Sivasagar for performing culling of the pigs in the affected area.
