Assam: Dikhowmukh College Observes International Women’s Day

GAURISAGAR: Along with the rest of the world, the International Women’s Day was observed by the Women’s Cell of Dikhowmukh College, a leading educational institution on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district at Rupahimukh High School in collaboration with Rupahimukh Sammilit Mahila Samiti.

 The Women’s Cell of the College organized a lecture on ‘The Role of Women in Rural Economic Development’ and interacted with local women of Rupahimukh area in conjunction with Women’s Day.  The whole programme was anchored by Dr. Swapnali Bora, President, Women’s Cell. Dr. Arundhuti Bhuyan, a senior member of the Women’s Cell and professor of English in the Department of the college, delivered a thoughtful speech explaining the significance of Women’s Day. The headmaster of Rupahimukh High School and Mira Baruah,a senior teacher of the school and an active member of the Mahila Samiti also delivered a speech on the occasion of Women’s Day. 

Snigdha Bhaswati, a member of the Women’s Cell of the college, conducted a beautiful exchange of views on the role of women in the economic development of the Rupahimukh area. During the discussion, local women openly expressed their livelihoods and lifestyles. The event was attended by about 40 local women from the Rupahimukh area. At the end of the programme, the members of the Women’s Cell of the College visited the homes of some local women and inspected the manufacture of pottery, a source of livelihood for the women of the area, and created a friendly atmosphere with the local women.
