HAFLONG: A jubilant gathering of local farmers marked the release of the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme in Haflong, Dima Hasao, on Saturday. The event, jointly organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and the District Agricultural Office (DAO), brought together 138 beneficiaries who participated in the nationwide rollout of funds initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PM-Kisan scheme, a central government initiative, ensures an annual financial support of Rs 6,000 to eligible farming families, disbursed in three equal instalments through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), promoting transparency and timely assistance.
In this latest instalment, Rs 20,500 crore was disbursed to more than 9.7 crore farmers across India. The Haflong event not only facilitated local disbursements but also served as an educational platform for farmers to learn about government schemes, modern practices, and innovations in agriculture.
The programme featured key dignitaries such as Dr. Ardhendu Chakraborty, senior scientist and head of KVK Dima Hasao, and Narmada Khersa, District Agricultural Officer. Kabin Medhi, subject matter specialist (Fishery), extended a warm welcome, setting the tone for the day.
L. Nampui, Nodal Officer at DAO, led an in-depth session on the PM-Kisan scheme, followed by an interactive session between farmers and scientists. Attendees gained insights on modern farming techniques, soil health, and sustainable agricultural development.
