GUWAHATI: The Department of Law, Gauhati University, organized a fruitful discussion on the topic "Electoral Bond: Route to Illegal Political Funding Closed" at its conference hall.

The keynote speaker Mr. Vijay Hansaria, Senior Advocate of Supreme Court, enlightened the audience by talking about the landmark decision of the Supreme Court with regard to the closure of the controversial electoral bond system, which he welcomed as the most significant step towards increasing the transparency of India's electoral framework.

According to Hansaria, the judgment seeks to curtail the power of unaccounted and anonymous funds on politics, aligning democratic elections with the true will of the people rather than with money power. "By shutting this route of clandestine political donations, we are holding up the integrity of democracy and rejecting the shadow of illegal funding," he noted.

The session was inaugurated with a welcome speech by Dr. Aparajita Baruah, Head of the Department of Law, Gauhati University. Prof. Dr. D.P. Sharma, from the Department of Political Science, Gauhati University, and Dr. Bimal Baishya, Head of the Department of Law at MSSV, also graced the event. All faculty members and students of both the Department of Law and University Law College actively participated in this session.

The interactive discussion on the judgment helped the audience reflect on the implications of judgments and the changing landscape on electoral reforms in India.
