MORAN: A leopard that had been causing panic in Khowang village in Moran in Dibrugarh district, was successfully captured. The leopard was caught in Khowang in a cage made by a local youth identified as Pankaj Baruah, a resident of Khowang’s Nahazar Sonowal village.

People were seen to be eager to take selfies with the caged leopard. The forest department took the leopard in its custody after its capture. A huge hyena was also caught in the same cage a few days ago.

The leopard had caused panic in the area after many attacks on cows, goats, pets, and other domestic animals occurred. Due to the regional forest department’s inability to even provide a cage, Pankaj Baruah took it upon himself to build the cage at his own expense.

He said that he took on the task after the villagers requested him as they were unable to leave their homes after evening. The two wild animals that has been creating terror in the area were successfully trapped in the cage.

The forest department, instead of thanking Pankaj, was seen ridiculing him over the cage. The locals also complained of the department’s delay in reaching the spot for the handover of the leopard.

They said that they were late to report while the hyena was captured and they had to wait for the officials. The villagers also said that they could hear the growl of more wild animals in the area.
