HAILAKANDI: The distinct level competitions of the major sporting event Khel Maharan successfully concluded in the Hailakandi district of the state and the athletes from the Katlichara Legislative Assemble Constituency showed their dominance in the district-level Khel Maharan competition of Hailakandi.

The players from Katlichara emerged victorious in multiple sporting events including football (Boys U- 19), Kabaddi (Boys U- 19), Volleyball (Boys Under-19), Volleyball (girls Above- 19), Kho Kho (Boys U- 19), and Kho Kho ( Girls Above-19). Players from Katlichera dominated in Athletics events also. On the other hand, in Football (Boys Above 19), Kabaddi (girls U- 19), Kabaddi (Boys Above 19), and Kabaddi (girls Above 19) categories, Hailakandi Legislative Assemble Constituency emerged as the final winners. Moreover, in the women’s football category under 19, the players from Algapur emerged victorious.

It is worth mentioning that on January 5, the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium hosted sporting events under the district-level Khel Maharan. The event was officially inaugurated by Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallah Baruah.

On the third day of the competition, the final matches of volleyball and football were organised. The award distribution ceremony commenced at three in the afternoon on Sunday. During this event, several accomplished sports personalities from Hailakandi District Sports Association were also honoured.

The event saw the presence of Elded L. Faihriem, the District Development Officer, and featured addresses from prominent figures such as Rahul Roy, former MLA and working President of Hailakandi District Sports Association, D Roy, Chairman of Hailakandi Wholesale Co-operative Society, ADC Jyotirmoy Daimari, MLA representative Jamal Uddin Choudhury, and District Sports Officer Nabin Chandra Rabha.

Before the award distribution, a vibrant cultural event was also organized. Subsequently, trophies were awarded to each champion team, and medals were presented to the winners of the athletic events. The grand finale of Khel Maharun concluded with a spectacular display of firecrackers and music.
