Lakhimpur: A team of dedicated doctors from Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital (LMCH) saved the life of a pregnant woman who was admitted to the Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) in a very critical and serious condition of rupture of the uterus.

As per report, Anjali Tamaria, resident of Brahmajan tea estate of Biswanath district, was admitted to MCH at around 6:00 pm on July 20. She was brought to the hospital by 108 ambulance. By the time she arrived at LMCH, her pain subsided. She was examined on the labour table by on-duty doctor Dr Kalpana, who observed that the patient was in very critical condition. She immediately consulted about the case with Dr Zarna Pegu (Registrar, O&G), and Dr Hridayananda Boruah.

The team of doctors immediately shifted the case to the CS OT without wasting any more time and prepared for Em Laparotomy in consultation with an anesthetist. At that time, the patient's attendants were totally confused and shocked on seeing the deteriorating condition of the patient and they were unable to take decisions.

Then Dr Hridayananda Boruah personally requested Dr Nikhil Kumar Kakoti, the Additional Superintendent of LMCH, for two units of free blood as a life-saving measure. Dr. Nikhil Kakoti arranged two units of blood in the operation theatre which made it possible for the doctors' team to go ahead with the emergency operation. One more unit of free blood was provided by the hospital authority post-operatively as the attendants were not able to manage blood. By conducting an immediate operation, the team of doctors managed to save the life of the woman.

After the incident, Professor Dr Bijay Kumar Dutta, Head of MCH of the LMCH congratulated the team of doctors for their success. Dr Bijay Kumar Dutta said, "We have tried more than 100 per cent to ensure that every pregnant woman who comes to our hospital can return home with her child in good health. LMCH is a new medical college, we are looking forward to the support of the people in some areas for its success and we are preparing this institution to do better in the upcoming days."

Dr Jagadish Goswami, the Joint Director of Health Services, also congratulated the team of doctors. Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattavan and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) Geetali Duwara also appreciated the team of doctors for the success and congratulated the LMCH.
