DOOMDOOMA: A cyclonic storm, accompanied by hail that lashed in and around Doomdooma on Monday night, left behind a trail of destruction all around.
The storm was so strong that it twisted the electric poles and uprooted trees in many places. Consequently, electricity was snapped from yesterday night till the filing of this report. A big tree fell on the road in front of the Doomdooma Police Station. Officer-in- Charge Inspector Manoranjan Saikia, who was in his quarter, sustained injuries as the glass of the ventilator broken by hail pierced through his arm.
Personnel of the Forest Department and Assam Power Distribution Company (APDCL) swung into action to remove the fallen trees on the roads. Thus, road communication remained undisturbed and the vehicles plied as usual. Although many trees fell on the railway lines, it did not have any effect on rail communication as only one train plies from Makum to Dangri twice, once in the early morning from Dangri to Makum Junction and once at night from Makum Junction to Dangri.
However, it might require some more time to restore electricity as the whole town plunged into darkness due to extensive damage to electrical poles in many places outside the town.
No loss of life or injury has been reported so far although the ferocity of the storm was so frightening that everybody was taken aback by its sudden appearance.
