GUWAHATI: The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) has told the SAC (State Advisory Committee) of the AERC (Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission) in a recent meeting that it has set the target for generating 750 MW of solar power by 2026-27. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will finance the solar projects to bolster the state’s renewable energy capacity.
The APDCL informed the SAC that it successfully secured a coal linkage for 500 MW under the SHAKTI Policy, 2017, from Coal India Limited. In alignment with this allocation, APDCL initiated the procurement process by floating a tender for 500 MW of thermal power utilising the allocated coal linkage. The Request for Qualification (RFQ) stage of the tender has been successfully completed, and the RFP (Request for Proposal) process will start soon.
APDCL is procuring 100 MW of wind-solar hybrid power offered by NTPC under a developer-mode agreement at a competitive rate of Rs. 3.43/unit. This procurement has received Cabinet approval from the Government of Assam, the APDCL said.
APDCL is in the process of procuring 200 MW of power from THDC India Limited from FY 2031-32.
APDCL is advancing a 320 MW solar power project, with construction already underway by SJVNL (L1). This project marks a significant milestone in expanding the renewable energy portfolio of the state.
APDCL mentioned that for FY 2024-25, the maximum demand met is 2684 MW (till September 2024) with an increase of 11.23% from 2023-24.
According to APDCL sources, the state’s likely power demand in 2025-26 will be 2950 MW.
