GUWAHATI : On 3rd of January, 2023 a student was found dead in a rented house in Guwahati's Panikheti area. The student hailed originally from Tripura and was pursuing his BBA from Assam Down Town University.

The deceased has been identified as Kwthar Jamatia. As per the reports, the youth was found hanging in the ceiling in his own rented space.

The Officer in Charge of Panikheti police station stated that, the department was informed about the matter at around 3pm. Kwthat Jamatia was sharing the room with boy from Assam's Nalbari district.

The roommate was not present at the place at the time of incident, as he went to appear for an examination. However, the deceased's roommate asserted that Jamatia was depressed since a very long time.

He purposely missed the examination and stayed back in his room on the 3rd of January. Furthermore, the body was taken for the post mortem.

The police has not identified the exact cause behind the suicide, nevertheless, further investigation is on.

On December 2022, a 24 year old girl committed suicide in her own residence in Guwahati's Bhangagarh area. She was a medical student who was pursuing her degree from Odisha Medical College.

As per the reports, the girl was suffering from some sort of mental illness as a result of which, she took the step to end her life. The parents of the deceased's are employed in the State Bank of India.

A police report revealed that, 2,310 suicide cases has been registered in Assam since 2018. The report suggest that, 3,302 death cases due to suicide has been reported out of which 2,391 were men and 911 were women.

Helpline numbers 6026900574 and 6026900552 has been established by the concerned department, for anyone who gets suicidal tendencies or going through some mental stress and disorders.
