DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh Press Club thanked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state government for renaming the Dibrugarh Airport on Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s name.
“We thanked Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the government for renaming Dibrugarh Airport on Bhupen Hazarika’s name. We are very much happy with the cabinet decision,” said DPC president Manash Jyoti Dutta and secretary Ripunjoy Das.
During a cabinet meeting held on Saturday, the cabinet has decided to rename the Dibrugarh Airport on Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s name, the legendary cultural icon of Assam.
Recently, the office bearers of Dibrugarh Press club submitted a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister to rename the Dibrugarh Airport after Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, the legendary cultural icon of Assam.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister DPC president Manash Jyoti Dutta and general secretary Ripunjoy Das appealed for the renaming to recognise Hazarika’s immense contributions to Assamese culture. Bhupen Hazarika, a towering figure in Indian arts, was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2019.
