Assam: Dr. Udayaditya Bharali to Receive Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award 2025

GUWAHATI: In a significant achievement, the Parag Kumar Das Satirtha Mancha announced that Dr. Udayaditya Bharali, an eminent thinker and historian of Assam, has been conferred the Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award for 2025. The award will be presented on May 18 at his residence.

A former principal of Cotton College (now Cotton University), Dr. Bharali is known for his impactful columns in Assamese dailies. His widely read columns, like “Pristhobhumir Saneki” and “Prasangik Pandulipi” in Asomiya Pratidin, addressed global and regional issues with depth and clarity. He also contributed regularly to "Sadin" and "Aagan," edited by the late Parag Kumar Das.

Apart from journalism, Dr. Bharali has authored short stories and gained praise for his unconventional sports writings. He has also been a key organiser of the Parag Kumar Das Memorial Debate, held annually for the past 25 years.

Earlier, the historic town of Sivasagar witnessed the commemoration of the 64th birth anniversary of martyr and fearless journalist Parag Kumar Das on February 24. The event was jointly organized by conscious citizens, journalists, and representatives from various organizations. The ceremony took place near the bust of Xudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika at Dolmukh Chariali.

Senior citizens, educationists, and social activists Jyotiprasad Dutta and Bakul Barthakur inaugurated the event by lighting candles and offering floral tributes in front of a portrait of martyr Parag Kumar Das.
