BOKAKHAT: The world-renowned Kaziranga National Park, a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists, will suspend its elephant safari services from April 30. Additionally, jeep safari services in the park will be halted for tourists in the month of May.

This information was shared with the media by the Field Director of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. It is noteworthy that the 2024-25 tourism season at Kaziranga began in October last year. As expected, the park saw a huge influx of both domestic and international tourists, including many distinguished visitors.

Among the notable guests during this tourism season were over 50 ambassadors, high commissioners, and representatives from various countries, led by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also recently visited the park. Over the years, Kaziranga has attracted visits from two Indian Presidents, the Prime Minister, and many other eminent personalities.

Kaziranga, known globally for housing the highest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, is also home to Royal Bengal tigers, elephants, Asiatic water buffaloes, rare swamp deer, and rich biodiversity, contributing significantly to its international recognition.

The park authorities reported that over 400,000 tourists visited Kaziranga National Park this tourism season, generating nearly Rs 11 crore in revenue. As per usual regulations, elephant safaris will cease from April 30. The authorities added that, similar to last year when jeep safaris were closed from May 15, this year too, jeep safaris will also be closed, along with elephant safaris, in May considering the weather conditions.
