
GUWAHATI: A group of 45 ambassadors and heads of missions from various countries, led by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, enjoyed an elephant safari at Kaziranga National Park on Monday.
The safari was part of the lead-up to the Advantage Assam summit, which is set to take place in Guwahati on February 25.
Jaishankar expressed his delight over the increasing number of tourists visiting Assam and emphasized the importance of the event in enhancing the state’s profile.
The aim is to attract more international tourists and investors, highlighting Assam and the northeastern region of India as potential hubs for growth. He also mentioned that the experience of the safari was an excellent start to the day.
Regarding the rising number of visitors to Kaziranga, Jaishankar acknowledged the positive trend and noted that the park had already welcomed over 300,000 visitors.
He also referenced the Prime Minister’s encouragement to explore different parts of India, known for its diverse natural and cultural tourism offerings.
Delegates from Timor-Leste and other countries shared their appreciation for the opportunity to visit Kaziranga and see wildlife like elephants, rhinos, and tigers in their natural habitat.
They highlighted the peaceful coexistence of these animals despite their aggressive reputations, which left a lasting impression. One delegate expressed gratitude to the authorities for the unforgettable experience, noting the beauty and serenity of Assam.
