Assam: Ex-Servicemen Reunion Rally & ESM Association's Silver Jubilee Celebration Held At Azara

GUWAHATI: A reunion rally for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and the Silver Jubilee celebration of the ESM Association, Borjhar, was held on 9th February 2025 at Hari Gayatri Das College, Azara, to mark 25 successful years. The rally focused on addressing issues related to pensions, banking, and paperwork in one place. The event was attended by 93 ESM, 46 widows, and 73 wives/dependents of ESM.

The rally was presided over by Brigadier Polash Choudhury, SM (Retd.), Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, as Chief Guest, with Col Robin Coomar Das (Retd.) as Guest of Honour. Col Padmalochan Barman (Retd.), Welfare Officer, Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Kamrup (M), along with his staff, hosted the event. Other retired senior officers from the armed forces and serving civil dignitaries also attended, including Wg Cdr Gobinda Baruah (Retd.), President of the ESM Association, Borjhar, Dr. Biju Baruah, Principal of Hari Gayatri Das College, Arun Sarma, Retired Principal of Hari Gayatri Das College, and Manoranjan Bhattacharjee, Ex-President of Sakha Sahitya Sabha and Pratidin correspondent. Ex-Hony Ft Lt Dhirendra Deka, President of the Ex-Servicemen Association, Borjhar, welcomed all distinguished guests, Veer Naris, Ex-Servicemen, and their dependents, after which the proceedings commenced.

Col Padmalochan Barman (Retd.), Welfare Officer, Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Kamrup (M), congratulated the ESM Association, Borjhar, on completing 25 years. In his speech, he talked about important topics like the resettlement and rehabilitation of Ex-Servicemen, and the welfare schemes offered by the Kendriya Sainik Board, New Delhi, and the Rajya Sainik Board, Assam. He also discussed the welfare programs available through the Government of Assam and addressed pension-related issues under SPARSH and ECHS.

Col Barman highlighted the reserved seats in medical, dental, and engineering colleges, as well as the 2% reservation in Group A, B, C, and D positions for Assam Government jobs. He also informed the ESM community about the "Rashtriya Kritagyata Evam Jagrookta Yojana," a program by the Governor of Assam in collaboration with the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam.

Brigadier Polash Choudhury, SM (Retd.), Director of DSW Assam, spoke at the rally on behalf of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam. He congratulated the ESM Association, Borjhar, on completing 25 successful years and thanked the veterans and their families for their sacrifices and service to the country.

He encouraged them to keep helping with social and nation-building efforts by staying involved with serving personnel and civil leaders. Brigadier Choudhury also promised to quickly address their issues and reaffirmed the Rajya Sainik Board's strong commitment to the welfare of the Ex-Servicemen community.
