GUWAHATI: In a significant development, the Chief Secretary of Assam held a meeting with Sohel Kazani, Managing Director and Founder of Bharat Freight Group, and Yashas Karanam, Director and COO of Bellatrix Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. Discussions focused on the potential establishment of an Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) manufacturing plant for satellite subsystems, propulsion systems, payloads, and other critical components.

The proposed facility will comprise an electronics laboratory, an environmental test lab, clean rooms, a humidity-controlled store room, test fixtures for satellite assembly and testing, common area facilities, and a tool room.

The feasibility of forming a joint venture under the public-private partnership (PPP) model to strengthen the state’s aerospace and defence sector was also explored. Additionally, Karanam proposed an initial investment of ₹50 crore for Phase 1 of the project.

Earlier in February, a session titled ‘The Skies of Tomorrow: Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing in Assam’ explored Assam’s potential in the aerospace and defence manufacturing sector with a dynamic lineup of policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators.

The session began with context-setting and panel moderation by G. Satheesh Reddy, president of the Aeronautical Society of India and ex-chairman of DRDO. He highlighted Assam’s potential in the aerospace sector and emphasized the critical role of innovation and collaboration.
