
DIMA HASAO: An FIR has been registered under Umrangso Police Station, citing Sections 3(5)/105 BNS, read with Section 21(1) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on social media.
On Monday, at least 15 miners were trapped after water flooded a rat-hole mine in Dima Hasao. “Prima facie, it appears to be an illegal mine. One Punish Nunisa has been arrested in connection with the case,” Sarma wrote on X.
In another update, the Eastern Command posted on X: “Troops from #SpearCorps and #AssamRifles under the aegis of #EasternCommand including Divers, Sappers, Medical Teams and support staff swiftly responded to an emergency requisition for the rescue of trapped miners in #Umrangso, Dima Hasao District of #Assam. The teams reached the site early this morning and are working closely with civil authorities. Rescue operation is under progress.”
Meanwhile, a source informed Meghalaya Monitor that six miners have survived the accident. However, official confirmation of the claim is still awaited. The source also noted that the water level inside the mine “may have reached 100 ft.”
