GUWAHATI: A massive fire broke out in the kitchen section of a repurposed "railway coach" restaurant located outside the Guwahati Railway Station at around 1 PM on January 16.

The fire was swiftly contained due to the prompt and decisive action of two personnel from the 166 MC MF Detachment, part of HQ 22 MC Group of the Indian Army. Naik Babloo Kumar and Naik Amanullah Haque played a crucial role in controlling the fire before it could cause significant damage.

Their timely intervention not only saved the restaurant from major destruction but also prevented potential harm to anyone in the vicinity.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, a senior engineer was killed in a fire at an ONGC facility in Assam’s Jorhat district on Tuesday. The incident occurred at the Borholla Group Gathering Station around 3:20 pm when a fire broke out in one of the heater treaters, equipment used to separate oil from water, during scheduled maintenance.

Rahul Dutta, a senior production engineer, sustained severe burn injuries and was rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The fire was quickly brought under control by the station's firefighting team.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. The company expressed condolences over the loss of the employee.
