Assam: Fish Worth Over Rs. 3 Lakh Found Dead In Barpeta
Fish worth over Rs. 3 Lakh were found dead in a pond in Tapeshwara village under Kalgachia Police Station in Barpeta district.

BARPETA: In a sensational development, thousands of fish were found dead in a pond in Barpeta District of Assam on Friday.
The incident occurred at Tapeshwara village under the jurisdiction of Kalgachia Police Station in the district.
There are speculations that the fish, thousands in number might have died as a result of alleged of poisoning in the pond.
The owner of the pond, Abdus Sattar first discovered that hundreds of fish were floating in his pond on Friday. On a closer look, he found that all of them were dead.
As per estimates, the total number of fish would be worth about Rs. 3 lakhs. The owner Abdus Sattar has alleged that this is a result of poisoning of the pond.
Speaking to reporters, Sattar said that some miscreants had allegedly thrown some poisonous chemicals into the water body which led to the incident.
Speculations are also rife that a long-lasting enmity might have a reason for the incident.
The owner while talking to reporters added that his family was earlier harassed by some people. There were also accusations of an involvement in a drug case against his family, said Sattar.
Drawing a link to the previous incident, there is suspicion among the victim's family that same persons might be involved.
Further, Sattar mentioned that he has already the Police about the incident. A case will also be registered at the Kalgachia Police Station very soon by the victim.
It may be recalled here that fish worth around Rs. 1 crore were destroyed in the floods this year in the month of July in Barpeta district alone. Officials from the fishery department had confirmed that over 18,000 ponds in the district were ravaged by flood waters leading to an estimated loss of over Rs. 1 crore for the fisheries in the district.
