Dhekiajuli: In a significant operation that has sent shockwaves across the Dhekiajuli Co-District, police arrested five individuals from Monujuli Pathar Gaon in Sonitpur district on Thursday for allegedly slaughtering a cow in a secluded forested area. The incident has sparked outrage among locals and raised serious concerns about illegal animal slaughter practices.
Acting swiftly on a tip-off from vigilant residents who noticed unusual activity behind a house on the village outskirts, police reached the site and apprehended the suspects red-handed with freshly slaughtered cow meat (beef). Reports indicate that a group of six to seven individuals had gathered in the area with the apparent intention of consuming the meat post-slaughter.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Abiram Kandulna, Thebian Topno, Jibon Guriya, Dawood Tamba, and Markas Topno. Two other suspects managed to flee the scene and are currently on the run. A manhunt has been launched to trace their whereabouts.
Local residents assisted in alerting the police and helped them reach the site promptly, which intensified the urgency of the response.
Police officials confirmed that the detained individuals are being interrogated, and further investigation is underway to determine the full scope and motive of the act. Preliminary statements from locals suggest the accused had planned the act with the intention to consume the beef, which has deeply disturbed community sentiments.
The incident has triggered tension and concern in the Dhekiajuli area, with residents demanding strict action and heightened vigilance to prevent such acts in the future. Authorities have assured a thorough probe and appropriate legal action against all involved.
