DIBRUGARH: In view of the monsoon season and flood, the Dibrugarh district administration organized several meetings and training programmes among the different departments to combat floods in the district.
On Monday, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in collaboration with State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development (SIPRD) held a training programme among the Anganwadi workers. At least 178 Anganwadi workers participated in the meeting.
“During floods, Anganwadi workers take care of the health of women and children. We organized a training programme and our expert team guided them on how to keep sanitation and good health during flood situations,” said Deepjyoti Hatikakoti, Project Officer of ASDMA. He said, “A flood preparation meeting has already been held during February and March with all the departments. We have taken a slew of measures to combat flooding in Dibrugarh district.”
Every year floods create havoc in Dibrugarh district and due to flood, the people have to face immense problems. The down areas of Dibrugarh come under water during floods and the people have to take shelter in relief camps.
“Women and children are the worst sufferers during floods. Our main intention is to keep the women and children safe during floods. Training has been provided to the Anganwadi workers on how to keep the women and children safe during flood times. We have done several meetings with the stakeholders and important departments and asked them to provide all the necessary and essential items during flood situations,” said an official.
