Assam Floods: Poor plight of Diyungbra people

HAFLONG: Though the flood water is receding now, the difficulties of people are still continuing as their houses are inundated and their belongings damaged completely. The villages devastated were Rengerbil, Panglangso, Mounbo, Boro Wasiling etc. Several houses were damaged by flood. Villagers took shelter in schools and clubs of Diyungbra area. A team of SDRF evacuated several flood victims. They took shelter in relief camps.

The flood water entered their villages following heavy rains and both Kopili and Diyung Rivers began to flow above the danger level. They could hardly save their important documents. All the livestock were washed away.

Villagers appealed to the concerned authorities to help them as they lost most all of their belongings including huge quantities of paddy, cattle, goats etc. The district administration and NGOs have been providing relief materials from time to time. Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Nazreen Ahmed assured that the flood-affected people will be provided with all possible help to ease their suffering.
