Assam: Forest Officials Seize Illegal Timber In Barpeta District

Barpeta: Assam Forest officials have seized a huge quantity of illegal timber worth Rs lakhs from the Baghor area in Assam's Barpeta district.

As per reports, a team of Goalpara forest division led by Divisional Forest Officer Jitendra Kumar conducted a raid on Tuesday at Baghbor Chapori and recovered a huge quantity of illegal timber.

As per Kumar, they got the information of 7-10 sawmills running in the said area, and acting on a tip-off, the team launched an operation.

"The forest department has been continuously launching operations against illegal sawmills. Our operation will be going on," ANI quoted Jitendra Kumar, DFO of the Goalpara division as saying.

In the last month of June, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Gossaigaon seized illegal timber after intelligence input regarding the illegal cutting and felling of trees was received by Transit Camp Raimona of 31 Battalion of SSB.

Following the inputs, a special Naka team of 31 SSB was laid out in the Raimona National Park near the village Motambil.

The SSB team managed to nab four persons along with six bicycles laden with approximately 60 non-sal timber logs.
