Assam: Ganit Mela Celebrates Success of ‘Ganit Setu’ in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Ganit Setu, a Rotary-led initiative, under Rotary Global Grant GG-2352874, aims to transform Mathematics Education in rural and remote government schools across Assam and Himachal Pradesh. Hosted by Rotary Club of Dibrugarh, the project focuses on making Mathematics accessible, enjoyable, and engaging for students, helping them overcome their fear of the subject and also on training teachers.

The initiative, which is being undertaken for class 6 students, is centered on using game-based learning to reinforce mathematics basics, training teachers in innovative, interactive teaching methods and building confidence in both students and educators.

A meeting was organized at Maijan Tea Estate Model School on April 26, to observe the successful completion of the first year of the project which was done in 10 schools each in both Dibrugarh and Himachal Pradesh.

The second year’s training, for both students and teachers, began on April 22 in Chabua Tea Estate Model School and Maijan Tea Estate Model School. Besides these two schools, training would also be imparted in the following government schools viz. Graham Bazar Girls High School, Govt Girls HS and MP School, Lengeri HS School, Nirmali Girls High School, Barbaruah Girls High School, Lahowal High School, Teenali TE Model School, and Naharkatia HS School.

The training sessions are led by trainers from Aavishkaar, Palampur, and Himachal Pradesh, who bring their dynamic, hands-on teaching methods to each school.

The programme has received strong support from the District Administration and the Inspector of Schools, Dibrugarh, ensuring its success.

Ganit Setu was made possible by the collaboration of: The Rotary Foundation, five Rotary Clubs from the USA, Rotary clubs of Edina Rotary, Edina Morningside, Eden Prairie Noon, Eden Prairie Morning, South Minneapolis Rotary, Rotary Districts 5950 (USA), Rotary District 3240 (India), Aanaajoree, a grassroots education NGO, and Rotary Club of Dibrugarh, as the host club.

In a vibrant and inspiring event held on April 26, the Ganit Mela of the Global Grant Project ‘Ganit Setu’ was organized on completion of five days at Maijan TE Model School, Dibrugarh. The programme highlighted the growing impact of Ganit Setu on students’ learning and teachers’ development across the region.

The event, which brought together students, teachers, and local officials, was graced by the presence of Dr Samiron Borah, Inspector of Schools, Dibrugarh District, and Dr Raman Vengatesan, Member, Technical Cadre of The Rotary Foundation. Dr Samiran Borah emphasized on how the project is helping sharpen students’ observation skills and understanding of mathematics. He appreciated Rotary’s role and expressed a desire that the project be extended to more schools of Dibrugarh District. Dr Raman Vengatesan remarked on the strong, visible impact the initiative is creating in the schools and also appreciated the Dibrugarh Rotarians for their excellent management of the project.
