JORHAT: Newly appointed APCC president, Jorhat MP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Gaurav Gogoi was given a grand welcome when he arrived in his constituency on Saturday. Congress workers, supporters and well-wishers gave him a warm reception at the airport and people thronged both sides of the roads, stopping his cavalcade to felicitate him with the traditional phulam gamosa. Gogoi, first went to his house at Nazir Ali and sought the blessings of his elders, ancestors and the gayan bayan. Gaurav, in a brief speech stated that as APCC president he was asked to first take charge at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati but he decided to come to Jorhat first as he felt emotionally more attached to Jorhat because it was from here that his father, former Chief Minister of Assam had started his social and political life.
