GUWAHATI: Gauripur police in Assam apprehended a suspect for the gruesome killing of Rahul Hussain, alias Ali, a Class 9 student from Geramari in Dhubri.

The accused Gautam Ghosh, son of Late Anil Ghosh, and resident of Ward No-6 (new), Gauripur, was brought before the district court on March 13.

The shocking incident was reported when Rahul's dead body was found lying along National Highway 17 in the Targhat area on December 26, 2024. The ghastly finding sparked widespread indignation, with the victim's family and villagers calling for quick justice.

After the shocking incident, Rahul's family immediately filed an FIR at the Gauripur police station, accusing a group of miscreants of brutally killing their son before disposing of his body. But though they begged for action multiple times, the family alleges that they faced serious delays and lack of action on the part of the authorities, which extended their misery.

Following months of inquiry, the police, at long last, arrested Gautam Ghosh about the case. The victim's family, however, is still not satisfied, claiming that several other members of the crime gang are still on the loose, reportedly protected by political influence and police protection.

The arrest has also raised new charges of corruption and negligence among the local police, and there are questions about the integrity of the investigation. Most people are wondering if law enforcement agencies are serious about bringing justice or if there are vested interests at play in the outcome of the case.
