GOALPARA: Goalpara College and Jawaharlal Nehru College in Assam's Boko have made significant progress in advancing teacher education by receiving a Letter of Intent (LOI) from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), formally acknowledging their initiatives. With this approval, they can now offer the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), a four-year course aimed at nurturing skilled and well-prepared teachers for the country’s future.
The ITEP is a flagship initiative designed to prepare skilled and competent educators by combining subject knowledge with pedagogical training. With this program, students can enter the teaching profession directly, eliminating the need to pursue a separate Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree after graduation.
The approval of ITEP at Goalpara College and Jawaharlal Nehru College, Boko, will be a great opportunity for aspiring teachers in Assam and nearby areas, as it will offer them a well-rounded and organized teacher training program. This move supports the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which highlights the importance of quality teacher training and aims to raise the standard of education across India.
With this recognition, both institutions are now closer to starting the program, once they meet the NCTE’s requirements. Educationists and stakeholders are excited about this and believe the initiative will help improve the education system in the state.
