Assam: Goalpara Rivers Cross Danger Level After Heavy Rain

After heavy down pour all over the state, at least two rivers of Goalpara district were flowing above the danger level.

Goalpara: After heavy down pour all over the state, at least two rivers of Goalpara district were flowing above the danger level on Saturday morning. These two rivers are noted as Krishnai and Jinari rivers which are flowing over danger level of 0.41m and 0.6m. respectively.

Meanwhile, Khanindra Choudhury, District Commissioner accompanied by Nabajeet Pathak, ADC visited the flood prone areas of Goalpara East and Dudhnoi constituency and directed the Water Resources department to be on high alert.

The DC and his team also inspected the ongoing construction of embankment on Dudhnoi River from Tengabari to Sarapara and Bamunpara to Nandeswar.

He instructed Soleman Ali Ahmed, executive engineer of Water Resources department who was also present in the site, to take utmost precautions and not to leave any loop holes in the construction of the embankment thereby ensure the safety of the area.

The district administration informed the media persons that the administration is ready to control the flood situation in the district and the district disaster management authority is carefully watching every minor development of the situation. Mention may be made that the rain water coming down from the Garo Hills districts of Meghalaya has begun affecting the Goalpara Guwahati road of NH-17 and a portion is damaged at Krishnai Salpara area. The people of Krishnai area have expressed concern that if the rain doesn’t stop, the next 24 hours will be critical for them.
