Assam: Golaghat Police Nab 2 Peddlers, Seize Drugs Worth ₹3 Crore

GOLAGHAT: Golaghat Police arrested two drug peddlers with drugs worth approximately Rs. 3 crore from the area of Furkating in Golaghat district on Friday.

Two drug paddlers have been identified as Faridur Rahman (Mamu) from Furkating Tiruwal and Diganta Borgohain from Jonaki Nagar of Golaghat.

The duo was caught by the Golaghat police while transporting the contraband items in a Bolero vehicle (AS 01 AW 9192) from Kohima to Furkating. The drugs were cleverly concealed in 45 soap boxes within the vehicle’s fuel tank.

The police operation was conducted based on a tip-off, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) John Das. Faridur Rahman is suspected of being involved in illegal drug trade for a long time.

The police source said that another drug peddler, Prafulla Dutta from Tinsukia, was arrested by the Tinsukia police for his involvement in the same case. The investigation is ongoing, with the main accused, Faridur Rahman, being interrogated at the Furkating police station.

The driver, Diganta Borgohain, stated that he was handed over the vehicle by a Naga person in Kohima and was instructed to take it to Dhalai in Tinsukia district. He claimed to have been involved with the drug trafficker for about a month.
