KAZIRANGA: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated the state government's dedication to wildlife conservation in Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday. In a post on his official X handle, CM Sarma emphasized the ongoing efforts to enhance animal habitats within the park, noting a recent sighting of a tiger by Biswanath Police during routine patrols.
He stated, “Expanding faunal habitats. We are creating suitable habitats for our faunal friends and safeguarding them round the clock so that they continue to thrive.”
The Chief Minister also pointed out the rising prominence of Assam as a preferred tourist destination. He reported that more than three crore domestic tourists have visited the state in the past four years, giving credit to the state's cultural heritage, scenic beauty and upgraded infrastructure.
Apart from domestic tourism, CM Sarma also highlighted the increase in international tourists, with the number of foreign tourists crossing 60,000 in Assam since 2021. This trend reflects the state's growing appeal on the global stage.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister mentioned about the notable increase in tourism at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR), particularly following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's historic visit back in March last year. PM Modi was the first Indian PM to spend a night at the UNESCO World Heritage site, highly boosting its global reputation.
