SILCHAR: The much-awaited Silchar Corporation election will be held in September, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma indicated today. Sarma, who reached Silchar early morning today with a series of programmes, said that the work for a flyover in Silchar would begin within a few months. Refuting the charge against his government of negligence towards the Barak Valley made by the opposition parties, the Chief Minister said, “Gone are the days when there was discontent between people of Brahmaputra Valley and Barak Valley. Our government has ensured equal growth in both regions and with classical language status to both Assamese and Bangla, both communities have got equal respect.
The Chief Minister today laid the foundation stone of the Rs 24 crore-Critical Care Block in Silchar Civil Hospital. The 50-bedded block, to be erected on a 6335 square metre-area, would be a five-storeyed building with OT, dialysis unit, therapeutic diet room, and child care unit.
Simultaneously, he laid the foundation of the new Circuit House which would be constructed at the newly-integrated Deputy Commissioner Office Complex. The new Circuit House would consist of 32 rooms, including 10 executive rooms, 10 deluxe rooms, 2 VVP suites, security barracks, as well as quarters for drivers and grade IV staff.
Earlier, the Chief Minister attended the Golden Jubilee celebration of Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan HS School. He said, “Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan was a key figure in the Indian Freedom Movement and was a leading face of resilience in Assam. Educated, dedicated, and committed towards the cause of Maa Bharti, he dedicated his life to national service.”
