GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a Cabinet meeting on December 11, during which the state government introduced significant reforms to improve land administration and facilitate land transactions.
To resolve the challenges faced by landholders in making online payments, the Cabinet approved the continuation of manual payments for Khazana while addressing the concerns of micro and small landholders.
Despite this, the government has decided to maintain the process of onboarding Pattadars into the e-Khazana portal as part of ongoing land administration reforms.
In another key decision, the Cabinet approved the waiver of renewal fees under the Societies Registration Act for non-individual juridical entities, including Namghars, religious institutions, and non-governmental educational institutions. This will ease the process for these entities to apply for land allotment under the Mission Basundhara 3.0 initiative.
Additionally, these entities no longer need a chartered accountant's certificate to audit the previous three years, streamlining the land application process.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced a significant policy shift regarding Aadhaar card verification in the state, aiming to strengthen the identification process and prevent the issuance of Aadhaar to suspected infiltrators.
The Assam Cabinet has decided that the General Administration Department (GAD) will act as the nodal department for Aadhaar verification.
