Assam: Digboi Oil Refinery Marks 124th Foundation Day Celebration

DOOMDOOMA: Digboi Oil Refinery, Asia’s oldest oil refinery, established in 1901, celebrated its 124th foundation day on Tuesday.

On this occasion the Executive Director and Chief Officer of Digboi Refinery of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (Assam Oil Division), Ajit Kaila and a team of officers and employees visited Keshav Baheti Surjyuday Children Home at Gangabari under Doomdooma Police Station on Wednesday.

They donated 383 essential items including TV, inverter , geyser, food items, etc. The secretary of the orphanage’s management committee Akhil Barua officially received the donated items and thanked the refinery authorities.

A programme was held at the children’s home in the presence of children, employees, workers, and the team from the refinery. Speaking at the function, Executive Director of the refinery Ajay Kaila said that children must be guided, to make their lives beautiful. Only by the achievements of their comprehensive development the development of the country would be possible, he said.

The official said that it is in the hands of the board of directors of the orphanage that helpless lives can wake up. Refinery officers K Das, Dhananjit Baishya, Kamal Basumatary, Vivek Lohia, Pankaj Deka, Jintu Saikia, Samya Ranjan Nayak, Mahesh Tiwari, Enamul Hussain, and others also accompanied the Executive Director and participated in the function.

The Secretary of the Management Committee, Akhil Barua said that such co-operation of the refinery authorities would benefit the children of the orphanage. He also requested the Executive Director to provide a vehicle to the orphanage if possible, as the children needed a four-wheeled vehicle daily for transportation and other activities.

The children of the orphanage performed various cultural programmes to enliven the atmosphere.
