The initiative led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reflects the vision of ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi,’ blending economic development with cultural pride. "The Gamosas — a symbol of Assamese identity and respect — would be directly sourced from local weavers and distributed to citizens across the country, further promoting Assam’s heritage," CM Sarma stated while sharing the update on X.

“The initiative of sending Bihuwans to 7 lakh people has greatly benefited us, as the government is directly purchasing from local artisans,” a weavers' representative shared. This move is expected to significantly enhance the earnings of thousands of weavers, many of whom depend on their craft for livelihood.
