Assam: Gramya Vigyan Mela Concludes at BRMGM College, Doomdooma

ASS Doomdooma Branch held a Gramya Vigyan Mela at BRMGM College under a Govt of Assam project to popularize science in rural Assam.

DOOMDOOMA: Under the project ‘Application of Digital Platform for Dissemination of Science under Popularisation of Science in villages of Assam’ sponsored by the Department of Science, Technology & Climate Change, Government of Assam, Assam Science Society (ASS), Doomdooma Branch organized a Gramya Vigyan Mela (Rural Science Festival) at Bir Raghab Moran Government Model (BRMGM) College, situated in the campus of Doomdooma College, Rupaisiding on Sunday and Monday.

The first day’s programme got underway with a plantation of a tree sapling by Dr Amorjit Saikia, Principal of BRMGM College, in the premises of Doomdooma Co-District Commissioner’s office.

It was followed by the inauguration of quiz, science model competition and exhibition by Dr Kamaleswar Kalita, Principal of Doomdooma College. Along with this, a drawing competition was also held where around 150 students from various schools in the region took part in two groups. Additionally, 87 students from six schools displayed 17 science models. On the other hand, ten teams from different schools in the region participated in the quiz competition.

Assistant Professors of the science stream of Doomdooma College Satabdi Dutta, Pradeep Newar, and Jamil Hussain conducted the science model and quiz competitions as judges and quiz master respectively while eminent artist Biren Sharma conducted the drawing competition as judge. In Group A  of drawing competition, Sresha Paul (St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma), Swadhinanya Hazarika (St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma), and Lunasha Borah (St. Xavier’s School) secured first, second, and third prize respectively while Nabadip Sonowal (Jyoti Vidyapith, Dangari) and Priyadarshini Sonowal (St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma) were awarded consolation prizes.

In Group B, Shaswat Saikia (Donbosco High School), Jyotishman Dutta (Donbosco High School), and Jahnabee Borah (Modern Academy, Rupai) secured first, second, and third prize respectively while Saumya Sah (Lotus Academy, Doomdooma) and Rajarshi Talukder (St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma) were awarded with consolation prizes.

In the quiz competition, students from Donbosco High School, Doomdooma secured first and third prize while students from Modern Academy, Rupai secured second prize.
