DHEKIAJULI: In a heartening celebration of World Environment Day, the quiet village of Garubandha in Orang came alive with green enthusiasm as local NGO Arai Thulunga spearheaded a daylong environmental awareness programme on June 5.

The event was ceremonially inaugurated with a tree plantation drive at 12 PM in the premises of the NGO, led by Charan Boro, MLA of 47 No. Majbat Legislative Assembly constituency. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Boro emphasized the urgent need to preserve ecological balance and adopt sustainable practices to protect the future generations.

An open public meeting followed the plantation drive, organized to discuss the significance of environmental conservation. The meeting was chaired by Nichinath Boro, Secretary of Arai Thulunga, and witnessed active participation from villagers, students, and various social leaders.

In his keynote address, MLA Charan Boro called for collective community action to combat environmental degradation. He also distributed medicinal saplings to the public, encouraging home-based green practices.

The programme was graced by dignitaries such as Benudhar Adhikari, former president of Orang VCDC, Binod Kumar Baishya, a retired educator, and Bhaskar Kachari, a noted social worker, who each shared valuable insights on environmental responsibility.

Key members of Arai Thulunga, including President Joungchar Mosahary, Vice-President Uddipta Basumatary, Assistant Secretary Elbert Daimary, Treasurer Bishwadeb Basumatary, IT Head Karl Marx Daimary, Managing Director Raja Rabha, Project Manager Jiri Daimary, and Executive Member Ajit Daimary, worked collectively to make the event a grand success.

The initiative not only spread awareness but also planted the seeds of environmental consciousness in the hearts of the local residents. It stood as a strong reminder that protecting nature is a shared responsibility and every sapling planted today is a step towards a greener tomorrow.
