BONGAIGAON: A shooting incident at the Boitamari Police Outpost in Nityabazar, Bongaigaon district, has sent shockwaves among residents after an attack late on February 16.

An unidentified gunman, on a motorcycle, fired shots in the locality, targeting Abdus Salam, a local shop owner from Kayethpara First Part. Salam was able to escape safely as the bullets missed him, but the attack has shaken the community to its core.

Thereafter, the police have launched a thorough investigation to apprehend the attacker and determine the motive of the attack. The assault has also raised serious public safety concerns, and the residents have been calling for strict action by the police to restore security in the area.

Police are working round the clock to study CCTV footage from the scene and get eyewitness accounts to be able to identify the shooter. The security agencies have boosted efforts to arrest the assailant and tackle concerns in the community.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the police confiscated a substantial amount of narcotics and made several arrests. OC Manikpur PS picked up Shahjamal Bania from Delhi Punjab Dhaba in Bongaigaon and seized 58.63 grams of suspected opium and 3.78 grams of suspected heroin. Earlier, Bongaigaon Police recovered 9.33 grams of heroin from an e-rickshaw driver. Investigations are ongoing to trace the networks behind these operations.
