MANGALDAI: In a shocking turn of events, a man, who had recently returned from Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca, has been caught red-handed today by the Guwahati City Police with drugs in his possession. Hazarat Ali, alias Huzur Ali, from Magurmari Village under Shyampur Police Station in Darrang district, was arrested along with another individual, Golap Hussain of Kharupetia.
The police recovered 12.45 grams of drugs and a significant amount of cash from their possession after intercepting their XUV vehicle bearing number AS 01 FT 5586 at Tetelia near Jalukbari in Guwahati on NH27. What's more alarming is that Hazarat Ali is allegedly involved in various criminal activities, including land grabbing, cattle smuggling to Bangladesh, and terrorizing locals in the Sar areas of the Brahmaputra river.
This isn't his first brush with the law, either. His aide, Arifuddin, was killed by villagers while he was attempting a robbery in the Sar area in May last. A cross section of peace loving people living in Sar areas, on receiving news of his arrest along with drugs, has appreciated the timely action of City Police, Guwahati.
