Assam: Guwahati To Witness Constant Rainfall Till 27 March

GUWAHATI: On Thursday evening, an unexpected downpour that lasted for approximately an hour and a half surprised everyone in Guwahati city.

According to sources, the city's many neighbourhoods, particularly those in Chandmari, Rajghar, Anil Nagar, and Nabin Nagar, became waterlogged as a result of the severe rain.

Nevertheless, as the rain stopped, the water receded. The Regional Meteorological Department also provided the city's weather report.

The city is expected to see light to moderate rain through March 27 in numerous locations over Arunachal Pradesh and in a few locations over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

On March 18, there was significant rainfall in the Umrangso Region in Dima Hasao, Assam. Many of the homes and the area around the settlement suffered partial damage from the hailstorm.

Yet so far, no causalities have been revealed. A hailstorm damaged around 500 homes throughout communities in the Dibrugarh district of Assam earlier last year in December.

Assam and other northeastern states are extremely likely to have isolated thunderstorms and lightning with hail over the next 24 hours, according to a warning from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati.

Moran, Tingkhang, Lahowal, Lekai, Naharkatia, and other locations were hit by the hailstorm. In Tingkhang, 202 buildings in 21 villages and 5 homes in 2 villages of Lekai have also suffered significant damage.

With a forecast for severe to very heavy rain in numerous areas of the region through Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an "orange alert" for the northeast.

IMD's "orange warning" is a warning to disaster management organizations to be ready for anything. Just a few days ago, the northeastern states saw nonstop rain.

In certain northeastern regions, this has caused a dramatic drop in daytime temperatures of up to 10 degrees Celsius below average.

Guwahati, the capital of Assam, too experienced a sharp dip in daytime temperatures, with a high of 21.2 degrees Celsius on last Sunday.
