NAGAON: Panic gripped the Majarati area of Nagaon late Monday night after locals discovered the half-burnt body of an unidentified young man near the premises of a Shiva temple. The disturbing incident has sparked concerns and speculation among residents.

According to police, initial findings suggest the victim was murdered and the body set ablaze in an attempt to destroy evidence. A bottle of kerosene oil found beside the remains has strengthened suspicions of foul play. Local residents alerted the police after noticing a strong smell of burning and discovering the charred body close to the temple. Law enforcement personnel from the Nagaon police station swiftly reached the site and have since sealed off the area for forensic examination.

“The condition of the body and the presence of kerosene indicate this was a planned act of murder,” said a police official present at the scene. “Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the victim, and we are checking recent missing persons reports in the district.”

The body has been sent for post-mortem, and a case has been registered as investigations continue.
