Assam: Headmaster Commits Suicide Over Not Being Able To Use Phone App

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident in Assam's Lakhimpur district, a headmaster committed suicide after being unable to use the mobile applications prescribed by the Assam government for managing works digitally.

The deceased has been identified as Gopal Chandra Sarma, a headmaster of a primary school located in Santapur village of Bihpuria located in the Lakhimpur district.

According to sources, the headmaster committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of cloth near his house.

Getting informed about the incident, police immediately reached the spot and recovered the dead body of the headmaster who was found hanging.

In the incident spot, police also recovered a suicide note written by Sarma just before ending his life. In the note, he explained the reason for taking such an extreme step.

He wrote that the current digital system in education has led him to end his life as he was facing several issues for being unable to manage the online procedure using mobile applications.

The suicide note also says that the headmaster was under tremendous pressure for failing to operate the mobile apps prescribed by the state government.

Meanwhile, police sent the dead body of the headmaster for an autopsy report and an investigation is ongoing. Further details about the suicide case are awaited, informed sources

It may be mentioned that the newly introduced online method of maintaining educational works has been affecting the lives of many instead of being helpful.

This is not the first time that such a matter came to light as earlier in a similar incident a teacher of a primary school committed suicide in the Sivasagar district of Assam after he failed to use mobile apps.

The incident was reported in 2021 from the Demow area of Sivasagar where the teacher was found hanging in a classroom at Lakhimi Pathar LP School.

The teacher identified as Kali Prasad Chetia ended his life after finding difficulty in using mobile apps that are made by the government for tracking the attendance of school teachers.
