DIPHU: With dengue fever positivity rate not declining in Diphu Municipal area, the Health department has called for a united fight against the outbreak of the disease. As on August 17 the positivity rate still stands at 45%.

In a press conference held here at the conference hall of the Joint Director of Health Service, here on Friday, the Joint Director of Health Services, Dr. Borsing Rongpi said the press meet is convened so that the message goes to the general public about the alarming rate of dengue cases in Diphu Municipal areas.

Dr. Rongpi said the cases of dengue fever in Karbi Anglong and especially in Diphu Municipal area increased from last year. Last year the positive cases were 3,548. This year till July end the total test conducted was 4,897 out of this 2,041 were found positive.

Dr. Rongpi also said that the positivity rate is very very high. It still stands at 45%. With the death toll at 4. It is dangerous for the community at large.

Dr. Rongpi said, “The Aedes aegypti mosquitoes when they bite a human being pass the dengue virus. The dengue virus not only passes to human beings, but it passes to the eggs. This is one of the characteristics of dengue. The area where the eggs are laid even if it dries out, the eggs do not get spoiled. Later after touching rain water the eggs hatch and are again ready to transmit the dengue virus. We need to contain the spread of the virus. It is just the beginning and will stay till the end of monsoon. Source reduction, fogging and distribution of mosquito repellent creams are being done by the Health department, Dr, Rongpi informed.

As on August 17, the positive rate still stands at 45 percent. The official death toll is 4. The total test done (Elisa) is 114 out of which 74 were positive. The cumulative test done (Elisa) is 6,423, cumulative positive is 2,931 and cumulative negative is 3,492, stated a press release.
